Green IT???
It has been quite sometime since I have been writing on green issues in Dataquest Magazine. Oft times, I get drawn into arguments on green and the need for it with friends, colleagues and others. I welcome most of these arguments, as they help me gain new insights through various points hurled at me. Also, the process of debating clears the whole notion for me.
The two big queries that get thrown up all the time is: do we really need green? And whether green is merely a big hype created by the vendors peddling their wares? To be honest, my belief of the former is equally matched by my misgivings on the latter. With the Himalayan glaciers melting away, the land caught between famine and floods; there is scant doubt that we need to change our ways and align ourselves with nature. Green is the need of the hour for India or any other nation.
Greenitindia.com is a small step to that end. It’s a hark to all IT and tech professionals to look at green not merely from an economic perspective but also from a social one. Indeed going green is not merely good for the environment but also great for the bottomline and hopefully the topline pretty soon.
Through this blog, I want to spread the message of green, provide one good resource to all tech professionals to not only learn but also to share their views and work. In the end, I don’t really know whether Green IT is merely hype or reality. What I do know is that it is the need of the hour; an urgent need.
